TheWirk.com takes in Charlotte for the NCAAs ~ Well, at least her avatar did

Sarah can't be everywhere, so TheWirk.com is engaging fans and followers of the blog to create a "THE WIRK Avatar" to take to sporting events in their area and report back on the action and highlights.

Lucky fans and followers who post pictures like this of "their" THE WIRK Avatar at sporting events they attend may get a chance to meet her at a future event when she comes back around to their city.  ****  You may even get a seat upgrade, because she sometimes has extra tickets on her.

RixStar was hanging out with a "THE WIRK Avatar" in Charlotte for some Eastern Regional NCAA Basketball Action at TimeWarner Cable Arena.

for some NCAA action

THE WIRK has been to over 70 different sporting venues.
This is inside the main entrance to the TIME WARNER
arena where the Charlotte Bobcats play.
Duke defeated Hampton in the early afternoon session.  THE WIRK had choice 4th row seats for this first session match-up, thanks to a hook-up at Hampton University. Go RixStar!

Between sessions, the "Avatar" checks out some of the
other NCAA action on a TV back in the room
at the Ritz Carlton Hotel next to the arena. This is so cool.

During the session, Jim Nantz looks like he's
checking out THE WIRK's Avatar!
THE WIRK, is a Duke fan (i.e. her brother went there) but she also like UNC, unless they're playing Duke.  Go Tarheels!  In one of the night games, John Henson hits one of his 28 points in UNC's victory over Long Island Univ.

THE WIRK is all about entertainment inside and outside of your favorite sporting venues. She knows where to hang out and have fun after the games.  Here she is at the Epicenter entertainment complex across from the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte. It has 3 levels of restaurants, lounges and other night spots.

When are the Bobcats going to open their practices to the public?

47-year old, Michael Jordan, practiced with the Charlotte Bobcats yesterday...  OK, I'm intrigued.  I haven't seen Michael Jordan on a basketball court since 2001 or 2002, when the Cleveland Cavaliers played the Washington Wizards at the MCI Center.

Since I'm pragmatic enough to realize that Jordan will never play in the NBA again, all I need to know is when these practices going to be open to the public?  The minute they sell tickets to these practices, I'm there out of sheer curiosity.  I've seen the Charlotte Bobcats play a game live and defeat the Minnesota Timberwolves.  I was at the Target Center to see the team capture one of its 22 wins, but I have to admit that the news about practice has me interested.

That's right - I'm talking about PRACTICE.

I'm not going to lie.  Michael Jordan scrimmaging with the Bobcats would be more exciting than watching the Bobcats takes on teams like the Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers, etc.

Oh, and if you want to make it even more thrilling put Charles Oakley on the court...  Best friends and NBA legends on the court?!?!  My head just might explode!

Tonight I saw the Bobcats defeat the Timberwolves ~ Can you say that?

Tonight, I went to the Target Center to watch the Charlotte Bobcats v Minnesota Timberwolves' game. Not expecting much of anything out of tonight's match-up I walked over a few minutes before the game started and found a guy on the street with a ticket. I don't carry $10s, and it's cold outside in Minneapolis. I flipped him $20 for a $35 ticket and made it to my seat just in time for the opening tip.

The only reason I was interested in this game is because Charles Oakley is now an assistant coach for the Bobcats. Paul Silas definitely has his work cut out with this squad, but they were able to defeat the Timberwolves tonight so who knows what that team can do. To be fair, this game was sloppy and there was very little energy in the arena. Can you say booooooooooring?

There are 82 games in the NBA regular season, and it seemed that the Timberwolves were going to take the night off. Kevin Love and Michael Beasley did their best to spur their teammates on, but the Timberwolves' late push wasn't enough.

At one point during the first half, the crowd started to boo the team. The Timberwolves were losing to the Bobcats and the crowd was not pleased. At around the same time, there was an announcement for the season ticket holders to check their mailboxes and renew. Seriously?!?! Scoreboard, people. Scoreboard.

After getting some ice cream at half-time, I asked the guy next to me if I could take a look at his booklet (i.e. pre-game program). Yep, sure enough I was watching Kwame Brown and Darko Milicic go against each other. **** Honestly, I think my ice cream is more interesting, but since this blog isn't about ice cream, I'll try to focus on the game.
There really isn't much to say. Sure the game went into overtime, but for my $20 and the level of effort I saw on the floor ~ I just don't have the desire to look at a box score and write anything intelligent or snarky.

Tonight, for $20, I watched the Charlotte Bobcats win. My friends say that I overpaid. Regardless, I was there. Can you say that?!?!

Charles Oakley to the Bobcats as part of Paul Silas' coaching staff

Congratulations to one of my favorite former New York Knicks and Cleveland's own, Charles Oakley, on his new coaching job with the Charlotte Bobcats!  As someone who grew up in Ohio and followed the physicality of the Knicks, it's great to see Oakley transition into coaching.

Actually, when I met my 1st fiancee, I asked him on the day that we met, "What do you think about that Oakley-Camby trade?"  ***  Earlier that day or the day prior, the New York Knicks' Charles Oakley and the Toronto Raptors' Marcus Camby were traded for each other.  He responded that he didn't watch basketball.  That was a lie, though, because he played basketball for the Cleveland Cavaliers.  He knew exactly what I was talking about.

Anyway...  It's been announced today, and confirmed by the banger himself on Twitter (i.e. Twitter name: CharlesOakley34), that he's joining Paul Silas' crew in Charlotte.

Alright, Bobcats...  Now I'll be pulling for you (i.e. or at least checking the scores).
