As some of you travel to Los Angeles to take part in the NBA All-Star festivities, parties, and maybe even athletic events, there may be some of you looking for things to do during the day. Well, I was provided the following information about Baron Davis' event with automaker Lexus. **** FYI: I drive a Lexus, and I like it.
Here is the information from the press release, " On Thursday, February 17th at 4 pm, Los Angeles Clippers point guard Baron Davis will host The CT 200h Challenge in Downtown Los Angeles. Davis is teaming up with leading luxury automaker Lexus to raise monies for his foundation, The Rising Stars of America (RSOA). The Challenge will consist of a competitive race in Lexus CT 200h hybrid vehicles driven by Davis and his celebrity friends. The winner will receive either a year lease of the CT 200h or have the opportunity to donate the lease of the vehicle to a charity of his or her choice. Further, Davis is challenging fellow celebrities via his Twitter handle, @Baron_ Davis, to race on a specially constructed obstacle course near the Staples Center."
Here's a video of Baron Davis, calling various celebrities out. The video may look corny, but it's in the same style as when he used to do his Ibeatyou.com internet challenges.
Being that I'm not on the ground in LA on Thursday, I cannot attend this event. I have no idea what the course looks like. If I can get a picture of the course on Thursday (or Wednesday if the course is set up early), I'll update this post with it.
I've pared down the celebrities that are confirmed for the event (i.e. according to the press release) but here are a few that may interest you:
Terrell Owens
Jaleel White (“Road to the Altar”) <-- **** Everyone knows him as Steve Urkel.
Jessica Alba
Michael Strahan
Robert Horry
I've also checked out Baron Davis' Twitter feed and it looks like John Salley, Boris Kodjoe, and Willie McGinest are also driving. Keep an eye on Baron_Davis and/or #CTChallenge on Twitter if you want the "latest" as there's a good amount of talking going on among the racers.
Once again from the press release, the information is below for your convenience.
WHAT: Lexus CT200h Challenge
WHEN: Thursday, February 17, 2011 from 4pm – 8pm
WHERE: 1220 South Figueroa Street; Downtown Los Angeles
WHY: To benefit Davis’ foundation, The Rising Stars of America (RSOA). $1,000 will be awarded to Davis for each celebrity who participates in the competition. RSOA is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 that utilizes athletics, mentorship and positive role modeling to teach kids life skills as well as ethical and social values.
The event is happening tomorrow, rain or shine, and it is free to the public as long as you RSVP ( http://www.ct200hchallenge.com/). You can RSVP all the way up until the event closes. **** I was informed that the guest lists at the door will be refreshed every hour.
I'm going to switch gears for a minute and go back to football. No, I don't want to talk about the labor talks and negotiations. I want to talk about Carson Palmer. I saw that Carson Palmer, quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, wants out of Cincinnati. I think I also saw that he more or less gave management an ultimatum ~ trade me or I'm retiring.
Well, I want to know when the retirement party is going to be held. I haven't really kept up with the Bengals. In 2007, I took my mom to see a Monday Night Football game. The New England Patriots were in Cincinnati, and I had wanted to see the new Paul Brown Stadium. The Bengals lost that game and ended the season wit a record of 7-9.
Carson Palmer has been the Bengals quarterback since 2004. This past season the Bengals were 4-12.
I remember before this past season started. I was excited to see what the Bengals with Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens could do. I expected the balls to be flying and I expected to see touchdowns.
Touchdowns.
I'm originally from a suburb of Dayton, Ohio. I'm used to driving south (i.e. through Monroe, OH) on the way to Cincinnati and seeing the Touchdown Jesus on the left side of the road. Just last summer Touchdown Jesus was struck by lightning and caught on fire. If I remember correctly, I was in Los Angeles for the NBA Finals and doing my MLB All-Star Mickey Mouse Scavenger Hunt. Don't know what I'm talking about? Here's a video.
Ownership turned down Palmer's request for a trade, and it looks like Palmer is putting his house up for sale. If you ask me, he should stop talking to realtors and practice throwing the football. Bengals fans are going to need him to perform next year in Cincinnati as a Bengal.
As for Touchdown Jesus, you can buy a shirt from Prep Clothing with Touchdown Jesus on it. The soft, comfortable shirt can serve a dual purpose if/when you wear it to the game(s) to help root Palmer along.
Let's be real... A little divine intervention couldn't hurt the Bengals' cause.
Actually, pick one up even if you're not a Bengals fan... A touchdown is still a touchdown!
**** In the interest of full disclosure, I received my Touchdown Jesus shirt gratis. However, I really like the product and am happy to promote it and the company.
So in 2010 FIFA World Cup action today, France lost to RSA (i.e. the Republic of South Africa) and all I know is that a few of the French players refused to practice. According to the ABC News article, "On Sunday the French players refused to practice to protest the decision by the French soccer federation to send home forward Nicolas Anelka, who reportedly insulted Domenech at halftime of a 2-0 defeat by Mexico last Thursday. "
Well, we all know now how that worked out for the French team.
France lost today, with a final score of 2-1. If you want a game recap, use this ESPN link. If you want to laugh, check out the following video of a remix from DJ Steve Porter. It has Allen Iverson, Jim Mora, Dennis Green, Joe Namath (i.e. incidentally, who can forget that sideline interview?!?! wow...), Mike Gundy & Terrell Owens. Have we learned nothing about the value of practice?!?!
Viva la Practice!!!
**** Oh and it gets better, I just saw this USA Today article with another video clip. It appears that the French coach, Raymond Domenech, refuses to shake the hand of the South African coach. Nothing like a poor loser and a lack of sportsmanship...
