Game 5: Celtics v Cavs ~ Quotes from a Massacre

Game 5: Boston Celtics v Cavaliers ~ Quotes from a massacre:

Texts/Facebook Exchanges:

Jack: Maybe it's Antawn.  He has that loser gene.  Money line would've been dope.
Me: What was it?
Jack: +290.
Me: I'm trying to open a window to throw myself out.
Jack:  You'd probably land on a Celtics fan.

Jomo: Future Cavs coach options
Me: Calipari was at the game
Jomo: And Cleveland won't be put on probation

Gary: I was just checking on you.  This is ugly.
Me: You, Nev, and everyone that has my number... Thanks, I'll type - but I'm not talking...
Gary:  I completely understand.

Teri:  Ur head must be exploding
Me:  I have the worst headache... I'd open a window and try to throw myself out, but the Cavs don't care so why should I?!?!
Teri:  Just an ass whipping
Me:  Completely

Nev:  How are you feeling?
Me:  Numb.  I feel nothing.  The Cavs are pulling a "Ken Griffey Jr.".  They never woke up.

Friend: LeBron is LeInvisible.
Me: My friend calls him LeBrick.

Cornel:  So impressed with the Celtics!!!
Me:  You should be ashamed of yourself.  You're a Lakers fan!  :-P

Scott:  If they F this game up, kiss the season adios!!
Me:  If they f this up I'm adopting the Suns... Currently, I'm resisting the urge to check out the nba store to purchase my suns hat right now...
Scott: C'Mon girl, the wagon is fillin up!
Me:  Shotgun!!!

Tweets:

LeBronsElbow Sorry for the delay. I was checking with LeBron's balls to see if they are still attached. They are, but oddly they were singing showtunes.

THEWIRK after the #cavs and #celtics debacle, how is justin bieber still a trending topic worldwide?!?! what is wrong with people? i don't get it.

blazersedge LeGon Fishing.

FisolaNYDN In the final minutes Quicken Loans Arena was nearly empty. Will look this way if and when LeBron leaves. Looks like he's checked out already

TurnerSportsEJ remember that note about the possiblility of the first OT game of the playoffs tonight? Never mind.

sportsguy33 Breaking news: ESPN's Ric Bucher reports that Cleveland has fired head coach Mike Brown.
****  I had to reply:  Dont tease me.  It's mean @ sportsguy33 Breaking news: ESPN's Ric Bucher reports that Cleveland has fired head coach Mike Brown.

At least I could watch comfortably in my hotel room.  I feel bad for the fans who saw it all in person.  Wow.  The Cavs really have to "bring it" on Thursday in Boston...  Enough said.

Calgon take me away (to Cleveland): Game 5: Celtics v Cavs tonight

Remember those commercials where the girl would be in a tub and say, "Calgon take me away."?  Well, I'm not foolish enough to believe that works.  I've clicked my heels three times and said, "There's no place like home."  However, my black flats don't even look like ruby slippers and let's face it ~ my name's not Dorothy so that won't work either.  If I had a private plane and could go anywhere tonight, I'd take that plane straight to Cleveland, Ohio.  Yes, I said it.  I'd even invite Joakim Noah to come with me, because we know he can't be busy.  That's just how nice a person I am!  Game 5 is tonight, and the Cleveland Cavaliers should be ready to exploit homecourt advantage and defeat the Boston Celtics.

I was watching TNT earlier this week and I heard Ernie Johnson use the term "LeBrondo".  That made me laugh.  Rajon Rondo was the story of Game 4, and LeBron James was the story for Game 3.  Both teams split games on their home floor (i.e. basically trading wins and losses).  I think I recall LeBron saying that he wanted to guard Rondo tonight.  Well, let's just hope that that doesn't open up the floor too much for Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and Ray Allen.  Can you tell that I'm a Cavs fan?!?!

I hope Cleveland is bringing more of its offense and defense to the table tonight and is ready to dominate.  I got into a discussion last night about the merit of Mike Brown.  My friend was saying that he couldn't coach.  I admit, I am a member of a "Fire Mike Brown" group.  We both remarked that the only play that Coach seems to call in the huddle (i.e. after a time-out, etc.) is the "Give the ball to LeBron" play.  Trust me ~ he and I are smart and have high basketball IQs, but I assure you that even the dimmest bulb on the shortest bus could figure that out!

**** Coaches are in a very unenviable position. We love them when the team wins, and we second guess and join "Fire XYZ" forums when the team loses. I like Mike Brown, when the Cavs win and when he's not snubbing Zydrunas Ilgauskas. Regardless, I will still ultimately blame Danny Ferry if the Cavs don't win a NBA Championship this year.

Come on Cleveland, it's GO time at Quicken Loans Arena!!!

Hank Haney and Tiger Woods - Breaking up is hard to do

Did you see that Hank Haney quit his job as swing coach for Tiger Woods via text message (i.e. at least that's what People.com is reporting)?  Nobody ever said breaking up was easy.  In fact, the whole scenario reminds me of a book that I read years ago, when I was going through a break-up with my first fiance.

The book was entitled, "It's Not Me, It's You: A Modern Girl's Guide to Breaking Up"...  I thought the book was funny and left it on the nightstand by accident one day.  Needless to say, he was not amused.

Oh well.

Boston Nope shirts, look more like Josh Smith than LeBron James

If you're in Boston or have been to Boston recently you may have seen the Boston Celtics green on "Nope" T-shirts that are being sold.  To see what I mean, click here

Game 4: Rajon Rondo dominates and the Celtics defeat the Cavs

Rajon Rondo played out of his mind. <--  There's really nothing more that needs to be said, but I will elaborate a little bit more about Game 4 of the Cleveland Cavaliers v Boston Celtics series at the TD Garden.

Maybe LeBronsElbow drank too much Arbor Mist...  I have no idea.  I do know that Rondo basically single-handedly ruined my last day in Boston, and that I have worked hard to try to forget his stellar performance.  The Cavs were down, and then it appeared that they decided to try to make a comeback.  Once the Cavs made it a close game and even caught up, it appeared that the Cavs completely unraveled.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans must've felt like they took a shot to their nuts, and Anderson Varejao actually did.  Check out the video from the game.  The sound is terrible, but the image is priceless.  It's no secret I'm not an Anderson Varejao fan...

I went to the game with Ning, Tom (i.e. Ning's boyfriend), and a guy named Jeff (i.e. Tom's friend).  Tom is a season ticketholder and offered me a ticket.  Even though, a Celtics fan ~ Tom's ok in my book.

View from the seats

At the start of the game  I was handed a "Go Celtics" rally towel.  Yeah, I touched it.  I also couldn't resist taking a picture with "Lucky" the Celtics "leprechaun guy".  Yeah, I admit it.  Needless to say, I think I messed up my Cavs karma with those 2 events.  And yes, as a Cavs fan I know I should be ashamed of myself...

Jay-Z and Beyonce weren't at Sunday's game, but it was Mother's Day and LeBron James' mom, Gloria, was sitting pretty across from the Cavs bench.

At one point the Cavs were on top, but they eventually lost the game by 10 points.

My crush wasn't happy, but since my text messages were being delivered 3 hours late, I "received" his messages late.  Whatever.  It really didn't matter.  There was nothing to celebrate (i.e. unlike after Friday's game) and I had a flight home to catch.  I didn't have time to drown my sorrows with some Arbor Mist, near the harbor.

Leaving the arena and heading to the airport, I received text message after text message from Celtics fans (i.e. notice I didn't call them my friends, j/k) i just copied and pasted my same reply:  "Every time I saw the ball it was going through Jamison's hands and bouncing off of his jersey, being shot by Varejao, or part of a short lay-up.  Terrible."  Just what every Cavs fan wants ~ Jamison with butter fingers and Varejao shooting...  GIVE ME A BREAK.

Lucky for me there was Game 4 of the Phoenix Suns v San Antonio Spurs series for me to watch on my JetBlue flight!  I was able to watch the 1st 3 quarters and see Steve Nash catch Tim Duncan's elbow.  I watched Nash walk towards the court after his several stitches, and I watched his eye start to swell shut.  Nash's injury wasn't as bad, but it reminded me of Kelly Pavlik in his last fight...  I also noticed that there was a new hashtag for Twitter that was being used (i.e. #1eyedNash) and that it was gaining popularity!

By the time I had arrived at home, the game was over and the Suns had swept the Spurs!  At least one of the games ended the way I wanted it to...

Thanks, Ning, Tom and Genghis ~ I had a great time!

That's all for now.

The Yankees crush the Red Sox, 14-3 on a Saturday night at Fenway Park

The Yankees crushed the Red Sox today.  The score was 14-3 and the game lasted about 5 hours (i.e. with an hour rain delay).  I'd been to Fenway before, so there wasn't anything I really wanted to check out.  I went to take a picture of the Ted Williams statue, but after that it was all business.

I took Ning with me to the game, since she's kind enough to host me in Boston this weekend and I was pleased to see that the seats we had were under cover.  ****  Ironically, the seats were in the same section as my crush of many years ~ WEIRD, but I digress...  It'd been raining all morning and I was almost certain that there would be a rain delay.  I was right.

In the 5th inning, one strike short of an official game, the rain started comng down.  ****  Incidentally all the songs that were played suddenly had a rain theme (e.g. Here Comes the Rain Again, etc.).  I had no idea there were so many of them.

Eventually the game resumed.  Whoever said that the Yankees and Red Sox games take a long time to play wasn't kidding.  This game was a marathon, but was exciting especially if you are a Yankees fan.  The game got away from the Red Sox and before you knew it, the Red Sox fans were leaving Fenway Park.

The TVs for those lucky enough to be in the front row seats behind home plate

Of course I ate at the game.  I had a Fenway Frank, and it was good.  I was pleased that the hotdog was longer than the bread, since it's a pet peeve of mine when there is too much bread.  The bread was like a slice of white bread, and it tasted the same way.  Simple (i.e. which is good).  I also enjoyed a slice of pizza from Paga Gino's, and the crust was nice and crispy.  With the game lasting as long as it did, I needed to eat!

****  I was pleased to see that Fenway Park serves Legal Seafood clam chowder.  I didn't have any, but it is a favorite of mine.

One more thing, and I don't know why I didn't think of this earlier, because it's obvious.  Tonight I noticed a mother/son, old lady/younger man combo in the stands and they were wearing designated driver wristbands.  Also, they were drinking sodas.  The lightbulb in my head clicked on!  When I showed the awkward "couple" to my friend the following converstion ensued.

Ning:  How do you get the wristbands?
Me: Well obviously you have to be a virgin....

OK. So that was a little mean, but it is funny.  In all seriousness, if you sign up to be a designated driver at most stadiums/arenas/ballparks for your group you get a free soda.  So, if you're trying to save a few bucks ~ there you go.

Anyway, that's all for now.

Beyonce, Jay-Z, David Stern, and I watch the Cavs blowout the Celtics in Game 3

Friday night I was at the TD Garden for Game 3 of the Cleveland Cavaliers v Boston Celtics series.  I showed up.  David Stern, Jay-Z, Beyonce, LeBron, and LeBronsElbow were all in the building.  The Boston Celtics' defense and offense, however, were noticeably absent.  It was a crazy game.  After splitting the pair of games in Cleveland, all my friends who are Celtics fans started to send me messages that my series was over and that I should book a flight to Cleveland for LeBron's last game of the season on Monday.  Ummmm, yeah...  NO.

I flew Jet Blue from BWI to Boston and was asleep the minute I sat down.  Waking up in Boston, I cabbed to the Fenway to get settled in at my friend's place.  Ning is practically family.  She's one of the daughters of my mom's best friend and offered to house me this weekend.  Genghis is Ning's dog, and he's also a Celtics fan.  Needless to say, I was deep in enemy territory...
I took the T to TD Garden (i.e. my 67th venue) and it was fairly obvious that I need to get off at North Station since that's where everyone dressed up in Celtics garb exited the train.  Upon exiting the train station I saw the arena and to be honest, there isn't much to see.

When I walked in I found a Ticketmaster kiosk and I was able to easily print out my ticket.  This was incredibly convenient since I didn't have to wait at will call.

I didn't walk into the souvenir shops.  I wasn't going to buy anything, and I didn't want to mess up my Cavs karma.  I was at the game to "ensure" a Cavs' victory.  I'm lucky like that.  I went to the concession stand and ordered my food, and that's when I heard someone call my name out.  I looked and sure enough it was my crush of many years.  I knew he'd be in Boston.  I just didn't know that he'd find me before I told him where I was.

I went to my seat and looked up into the rafters.  Here's the obligatory picture of all the banners.

The game started and I just knew that the Cavs were going to win.

LeBron was on fire

Based on the pics I took I was more interested in Jay-Z and Beyonce being at the game then the game itself.

Beyonce and Jay-Z finding their chairs, and William Wesley (aka World Wide Wes) looks over

FYI ~ I'm pretty sure that's Kevin Garnett's wife next to Beyonce...

The game was a blowout and the Celtics fans were not happy.  Many of the Boston fans left before the game even ended (i.e. with over 9 minutes left in the 4th quarter the Cavs had already scored 100 points).  The Bruins were playing the Flyers and that game was in overtime when the basketball game ended.  The Red Sox has lost to the Yankees.  It wasn't the best of days for Boston sports, but if anyone knows this city ~ you can never count the team "out"...  It's not over, until it's OVER.

When the game was over Jay-Z and Beyonce crossed over to the side of the court where the Cavs' tunnel was and here's video (i.e. that I shot) of Beyonce, Jay-Z and LeBron leaving the court.

After the game, my Cavs fans and I went to Canal Street to celebrate.  I learned what a LeBron Bomb was.  Actually, I still have no idea what it really is, but it's something along the lines of a fruity shooter and throwing sugar up in the air (i.e. to mimic LeBron's pre-game ritual).  It took a few stops, but finally we found a spot that would let us do it ~ but we had to substitute salt.

Later I found myself in Faneuil Hall and around the Red Auerbach statue and a bunch of other plaques.

For you Celtics fans...  Larry Bird's plaque.

The Cavs won game 3 with a score of 124-95.  Walking towards the tunnel, David Stern had a huge smile.  I'd never expected such a large margin of victory, but I did expect the win.  I'll be at Game 4 if anyone's curious as to my whereabouts...
