Give me a break, more Favre drama ~ Text to solicit a threesome

So, let me get this straight.  If you send out a text message that reads, “(insert your name) here, you and (some other person's name) want to get together im all alone,” you're obviously soliciting a threesome?!?! 

Supposedly "Texty Texterson" sent another message, allegedly sayng he had bad intentions.  Big deal, people. ****  That's sarcasm.  Come on...  Who cares!?!?

Yep, supposedly Brett Favre has/had been allegedly texting a couple of masseuses when he was with the New York Jets.  Apparently the Jets were slapped with a sexual harassment suit because of these "sleazy texts". 

Give me a break.  As far as I'm concerned, you're going to need to give me more than that before I take the whole thing seriously.  I have no idea what's going on or if there's any merit behind these claims, but I can't be the only one wondering why Brett Favre is suddenly the "cash cow" for some women out there. 

The NFL investigation is over and now these other two women seem to want to add their names to the headlines.  Spare me.

My gut tells me this ~ Troll on, ladies.  Keep it moving.  There's no show here (yet)...

Brett Favre is fined $50K ~ Can we all move on now?

Brett Favre's $50K fine (i.e. ESPN says it's, 5% of 1 of his game checks) for not being "forthcoming" is weak and stupid.  Why did the Commissioner Roger Goodell even bother?  Favre is going to retire anyway.  Good for Brett.  If I was him, I'd rather pay the NFL's "token fine" and keep my mouth shut.

I'm happy that he let the system run it's course rather than strike some sort of financial deal with Jenn Sterger.  Who cares anymore?  This all happened years ago, right?  If Jenn Sterger really wants "justice", she should use the legal system and not depend on Roger Goodell to hand out penalties.

What I want to know is how many pairs of Wrangler jeans, Favre has to sell to make $50K?

To paraphrase Field Mob and Ciara, "He said/she said/they said/I heard... So what..."

Maybe Delta wanted me to see the Giants v Vikings game, since they routed me through Detroit

Today Brett Fave ISN'T starting as QB for the Minnesota Vikings.  In fact, after the hit he took in last week's game, I'm pretty sure that he's even playing. 

Tonight's New York Giants v Minnesota Vikings game is being played in Detroit, since the Metrodome's roof collapsed due to the weather in Minneapolis. 

Brett Favre's streak. that began in 1992, ends tonight at 297 consecutive starts.

I was in Detroit this morning.  Normally, I fly direct to Minneapolis.  This morning, the Delta counters were a disaster. and I dealt with the most unhelpful woman at the Sky Priority counter at Reagan National Airport.  I've already complained numerous times to Delta about this experience, and hopefully I'll have a positive outcome to report once Delta reviews the case.  Regardless, I was routed through Detroit.

Once I landed in Detroit, I listened to my voicemail and learned that my customer wouldn't be at work today.  ****  Remind me why I even traveled this morning?!?!  After hearing the voicemail, I contemplated giving away my seat, so I could go to the "impromptu Monday Night Football" game tonight. 

When I was at the Detroit Airport I saw Vikings fans at the airport.  When I landed in Minneapolis, I passed the gate for Detroit and saw even more people in Vikings attire.

Considering how late the flight got me into Minneapolis, and my Delta travel woes ~ I probably should've stayed in Detroit, visited the Detroit Lions' home field (i.e. Ford Field), and watched someone else (i.e. Tavaris Jackson) start as QB.  However, I couldn't get "down" with the cold in Detroit (i.e. or Minneapolis for that matter).  Plus, after just watching the Minneapolis local news report it looks like people lined up early so the free tickets were distributed rather quickly.  Lastly, if I heard it correctly, Sun Country Airlines filled up four charter flights to Detroit today.

Funny.  With all that travel, I didn't see a single New York Giants fan...

My 2 cents: Jenn Sterger meets with the NFL, a slippery slope

Wait a second. Jenn Sterger "gets" to meet with the NFL because she allegedly received inappropriate texts from Brett Favre?  Seriously...  Is this really the path, example, and precedent that the NFL wants to take for their player personal conduct policy?  Does the NFL really have that much time on its hands? 

I'm not one for policing NFL players or trying to monitor any professional athlete's behavior (i.e. if its not criminal) for that matter.  I have bigger fish to fry.  As far as I'm concerned whether or not Favre sent the text messages or left the voicemails is none of my concern.  It's the National Football League, not the National Fidelity League.

Personally, I don't want anyone looking through my phone records, and no one will ever see the texts or hear the voicemails I receive.  Further, from what I understand, if Sterger didn't provide any additional information, the NFL was ready to shelve the case.  Come on...  Am I the only one wondering why all of a sudden, she took a meeting?

Regardless, the last thing anyone needs is a bunch of women parading into the NFL offices with their mobile phones in hand "trying to get" or "waiting for" a meeting.  What's next?  I can see it now..  Before the playoffs or some big game, is some star athlete's former object of attention or affection going to produce cards, texts, and/or voicemails because she was jilted and wants to sabotage him and ultimately a team or fans' dreams?  Sure it sounds absurd, but who knows what can happen if we go down this slippery slope.

Packers crush the Cowboys ~ Things can't be fun in Dallas

I was in Dallas last weekend and I heard the radio guys' reactions to the Cowboys season.  I laughed out loud when I heard one of the men groan when Wade Phillips was at the mic talking.  He wasn't thrilled that Wade was at the mic talking, because obviously it meant that Wade was still the coach of the Dallas Cowboys.

I've heard Jerry Jones say that's he's "standing by his man" and that Philips will remain coach for the rest of the season.  With Romo out with a broken clavicle and Jon Kitna "playing" quarterback, things have got to be unbearable in the locker room, on the field, etc.  I can't fathom what it must feel like to be a part of the Dallas Cowboys organization, when the tean has a record of 1-7.  Further, it just can't be fun to be a Cowboys fan right now.  All my friends who are Cowboys fans are extremely frustrated.  It must be incredibly awkward to be Cowboys fan and know that in a few months that Super Bowl XLV is coming to town, especially since it was almost expected that after last year's performance, that the Cowboys would at least be in contention for a post-season...

I went to the new Cowboys Stadium in January to watch the Cowboys play the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC Wildcard game.  I bought a hat at the game, and have no idea where that hat is now.  Needless to say, I won't be needing it this year so I have more than enough time to look for it.  The Cowboys won the game I attended and went on to play the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis.  Ultimately Brett Favre and the Vikings ended the Cowboys' season.  Incidentally, I was at that game also.  ****  Check my earlier posts from January, if you're curious.

I barely watched the game tonight.  I'm not a Green Bay Packers fan, and I knew that the Dallas Cowboys would lose.  I ran into my friend, Tommy, on my way home from the Washington Capitals game and he said he thought that the Cowboys would cover tonight's spread.  That made me laugh.  I have no idea what the spread was for tonight's game, but I would've spotted the Cowboys 10 points easily and still taken the Packers.  ****  The final score was 45-7, and the Packers won.  Tommy, I told you so!

I'm not saying that I think the Cowboys are quitting for the rest of the season.  I'm not going to pretend that I've been following them enough to care.  I'm just saying that after watching Green Bay play against the Redskins (i.e. even though the Packers lost) and the Vikings (i.e. even though the game went down to the wire), it was obvious to me that the Cowboys would get blown out tonight.

The only thing that really made an impression on me today was Clay Matthews Jr.  I really want him to shave his head.  His stringy hair drives me nuts.  That's my 2 cents.

FavresElbow ~ Hope it's as funny as LeBronsElbow

I was commenting on another forum that features some of my posts, and I had a flashback to last years NBA playoffs.  I was replying to a comment about Favre's latest personal turmoil (i.e. think voicemail and text messages) that has been brought into court of public opinion and have also seen headlines that Brett Favre is considering sitting out if his elbow worsens. 

Personally, I hope all will be OK, with this elbow.  I enjoy watching him play and have grown tired of watching teams (i.e. that are "supposed" to win) lose.  It's only Week 6 and already I'm frustrated, and I'm a Colts' fan.

As for Favre's elbow, all I couldn't help but think back to Lebron and his elbow woes.  My internal voice is trying to be heard, as it screams "Here we go again".

Not sure if anyone's created a profile on Facebook, Twitter, or coined the term yet, but if anyone's getting a wild hair, I only ask for two things:

1. Of all the body parts on Favre that are receiving attention and could possibly be "talking" ~ please choose his elbow...
2. Please let FavresElbow be as funny as LeBronsElbow...

Brett Favre's voicemail or his 500th TD pass ~ What do you care about?

I don't know about you, but I don't want to hear every professional football player's inappropriate voicemail message nor do I really care about any inappropriate text messages.  I heard Favre's voicemail on Friday on the radio.  I don't condone infidelity, but I do think it's a personal matter between him and his wife.  Further, as long as there are no charges/convictions against him, I think it's a dangerous precedent for the NFL to "set" (i.e. to punish these types of behaviors as an offense to the code of conduct).

That's my 2 cents.

Now back to the business of the New York Jets v Minnesota Vikings, MNF match-up...  Congratulations to Brett Favre on his 500th career touchdown pass (i.e. of which  Randy Moss was the recipient)!  The Vikings are still down 7-15 with the 3rd quarter coming to an end...

Now that this blog post is done, I can start leaving inappropriate voicemails!  HAHA.  Just kidding.  Obviously, I need to order a voice changer first... Duh...  :-P

Saints defeat Vikings in Home Opener ~ Everyone wins in New Orleans

Thursday morning I woke up and drove to BWI so I could head to New Orleans for the New Orleans Saints home opener against the Minnesota Vikings.  It was the first game of the 2010-2011 NFL season, and you better believe that I wasn't going to miss watching the defending Super Bowl XLIV Champions at home.

During my layover in Charlotte, I received a text from The Rick telling me that there would be a huge craps session at 1 and that I was invited to a tailgate before the game.  Looks like The Rick was trying to play nice in order to make it into this blog, since he and I weren't getting along a few weeks prior.  Well, it worked.

I landed in New Orleans around 2 and hopped in a cab to head to Harrah's.  I shared the cab with some man, so already I caught my cost in 1/2.  Rather than $33, I paid $18 (i.e. you have to tip the driver).  Already I made money :)

As soon as I got to Harrah's I went straight to the craps table to find my friend.  He saw me walking towards him and the $15 craps table, so so much for surprising him.  He was wearing Deuce McAllister's jersey.  We played craps and then off to the tailgate with Bubba, Bubba's kids, The Rick's sister, and  The Rick's brother-in-law we went.  A few pieces of fried chicken and some beers later, I was ready to get into the New Orleans Superdome for my inaugural visit!

As soon as I sat in my seat, Eddie (i.e. the guy sitting next to me) introduced himself to me and asked if I was rooting for the Saints.  Yes, I was.  He then gave me the original ticket for my seat (i..e I only had the ticketmaster print out).  THANK YOU, EDDIE!  For someone (i.e. like me) who collects ticket stubs, I was thrilled!  Eddie, his sister, and his brother-in-law were a fun group to sit with and we had a fun time rooting for the Saints together.

The Saints defeated the Vikings 14-9.  The should've defeated the Vikings 20-9, but the kicker missed to field goals left...  LACES OUT!

After the game, I walked in the heat with the masses towards the casino.  The Rick met me there and we played craps til about 3:30AM.  I won!!!!  ****  FYI - If you're not going to place odds behind your pass line bet, you shouldn't be playing craps.  After a quick burger at Fuddrucker's I was off to the airport to head back home.

I'm ready for some regular season NFL action NOW!!!!

So I'm in Minneapolis and watching the Twins game from my room.  Actually, I really don't care about this game.  I'm sure it's a good one and I enjoy watching the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins, but I feel like I've seen this match-up numerous times.  In fact, if I took the time to add up the posts, I'd be willing to bet that I've seen this match-up at least two times already.  Regardless, if there are fireworks, I'll look out the window...  The fans have been quiet, so I've been planning the next steps for this blog and my impending time off (i.e.  VACATION).  ****  Update:  Someone just hit a home run! There are fireworks!  ****  Another Update:  More fireworks!  Twins defeat the White Sox in extra innings, 7-6.

Since Brett Favre boarded a plane to come up North (i.e. coincidentally to Minneapolis, where I am) I've decided that I too should work on finding my "blog voice" again and start strategizing my own football schedule.  There are still some great stadiums that I need to hit before I die, so why not use my vacation to tackle Week 1 as thoroughly as only THE WIRK can?!?!

Currently looking at the following:
September 9, 2010 - New Orleans Saints home opener v the Minnesota Vikings
September 12, 2010 - Philadelphia Eagles home opener v the Green Bay Packers
September 13, 2010 - New York Jets home opener v the Baltimore Ravens

The schedule is aggressive, just like me, and hopefully (i.e. with a little help from my friends) things will all fall into place.  If it all works out, I can knock off three new venues easily. 

In addition, I have a some trips, concerts, comedy shows, and some other stuff coming up so dont' worry - this blog should pick up soon!  I don't like to telegraph all my plays on here for obvious reasons - but good things are on the way.

Brett Favre and the "This is it" Text Message

All anyone can talk about today is Brett Favre and his "This is it" text.  BFD. 

According to an ESPN article, Favre has sent text messages to teammates saying, "This is it," league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

So what? He didn't text "I'm retiring." Maybe he meant, "This is it (i.e. the last year)."  Maybe he was recommending the Michael Jackson movie to his teammates.  Who knows.  Why are people are so jumpy?!?!  Until the man says he's retiring and actually misses a game, who cares?

Incidentally, I'm currently in Minneapolis and people are awfully quiet around here.  I did notice that Macy's moved the Favre Minnesota Vikings jersey's closer to the front of its fan memorabilia section (i.e. to the point where it looks strange, surrounded by the Twins gear).

Regardless, I got a call from my friend, The Rick, today who said we may have witnessed Favre's last victory in the NFL.  Oh well.  Guess we'll find out for sure...  Eventually.

The Cleveland Cavaliers and I are "on a break"

As a Cavs fan, I have to ask, "Why am I friends with this guy?"  Ryan is just one of a few Celtics fans that were out Thursday night and wanted to talk about the game.  Seriously, he's a great guy and one of my many friends that I debate sports with regularly.  In case you are blind and didn't notice, he's also a huge Rondo fan...  During the game yesterday and after it, Celtics fans celebrated, while Cavs fans like myself were numb to the world.

So, what did you do on Thursday night? Did you do/see anything good? As for me, I made it home just in time for the 2nd half of a heartbreaking game of basketball (i.e. Game 6 of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics series). When I made it home, the Cavs actually had the lead.

You know when you're in a relationship and it's not going well ~ but you wait it out and hope that it gets better?  Well, last night I broke up with the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Actually, technically, I guess you can say we're on "a break".

The team mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausted me.  Our relationship had such great promise this year and then it just fell apart. 

I feel cheated.  I feel misled.  I wanted more than they could give.  I've decided ~ I'm going to see other people.  I don't really care what the Cavs do.  It's time for me to cover baseball and other sports topics of interest.  ****  Actually, this morning I heard a rumor that someone on the Cavs slept with someone else's wife.  I made some phone calls and sent some texts and then learned that supposedly, it's a variation of that rumor.  I'm not going to go into details on this blog, because I don't know if it's true or not.  However, my sources are usually good...

Back to my relationship with the Cavs.  You are who you hang out with, and I believe that there is a lot of garbage on the team.  Antawn Jamison is not a winner.  Anderson Varejao is terrible and every time he touches the ball, I want to scream.  My last memory of game 6 is him launching a 3 pointer and missing (i.e. but you knew he missed it without me telling you, right?!?!).  Another Varejao image is him trying to stop play because he was bleeding.  Varejao if you're bleeding, keep bleeding - but NEVER stop playing defense or "offense".  Actually, NEVER play offense either.  I prefer you that if you must step on the court that you NEVER touch the ball.

I watch the Real Houseweives of New Jersey.  Yes, I like trash TV.  I was watching last week, and I heard the best quote from New Jersey matriarch, Caroline Manzo.  She said, "You hang around garbage long enough, and you start to stink."  That's what I think about some of Lebron's supporting cast (i.e. especially Varejao).
I didn't believe in the Shaquille O'Neal trade being the answer.  I like Shaq, and  I believed in his effectiveness years ago. Although I'm an Ilgauskas fan I recognize he can't play forever. I think Mike Brown should be fired. I also blame Danny Ferry, but then again I blame Danny for almost everything. I blame Ferry for the oil leakage in the gulf, global warming, overweight america, stock market crashes, and rain. It's always Ferry's fault.

Lebron.  Now comes the part where I jockey being a fan and being human.  I believe Lebron will stay in Cleveland.  I also believe that if the Cavs were to win a NBA Championship that this was the year for it to happen.  I can't imagine what it feels like in Cleveland today.  I know how it felt when I went to sleep last night.  I cried.  I actually cried because I know, that they (i.e. the city, the team) know, that this was "supposed to be their year".  I don't know if the rumors are true.  I believe the dynamic is flawed.  I hope Lebron doesn't become the new Brett Favre (i.e. stay, go, stay, go) and hold the Cavs hostage.  I do believe he does want to be recruited, but I do believe he will stay home.

As an Ohioan and a Cavs fan, all I can do is hope.  As I said, the Cavs and I are "on a break" and there's no time for tears, it's baseball season!

Soooo... You want me to bid on a Gilbert Arenas jersey...

Ok - So tonight I went to the Capitol Movement, Inc.'s 5th Annual Winter Fundraiser and Reception...  It was a fun time had by all with a vast selection of silent auction items.  The evening was covered by The Hill, DC Metromix etc. so if you're curious you can look at the pics or you can wait for some pics to show up on my facebook account.

At any rate, some things I find interesting.  Here goes. My friend, Damien, reminds me about the event tonight and asks me if I'm going.  I waffle.  He says the magic words, "Natalie's going".  Needless to say that's guaranteed fun and, I'm in.

We go to The Reserve and I survey the scene.  Guys you are crazy not to show up at events like these.  The girls to guys ratio is 10:1.  Trust me.  You all made a big mistake.  Huge...

I notice a dear friend of mine who writes for the Washington Post and works for ESPN is listed as a sponsor of the event.  I doubt he's gonna appear though because he failed to mention it the night before.  At any rate, I'm gonna have fiun.  Nat and I arrive at the venue, buy our tickets, and grab what is to begin many glasses of wine...  I start to explore the silent auction items and a few things interest me...

1 - There's an autographed Brett Favre football that someone had bid $1K for...
2 - There's a Chris Paul autographed basketball that someone has bid the minimun $150 for...
3 - There's a Gilbert Arenas jersey up for auction...

The Brett Favre football is appealing because the odds of me buying a pair of Wranglers and having him sign them are bleak..  LOL!  Let's face it.  Brett is not gonna be playing many more games and he doesn't seem like the guy who's willing to sit at a mall/autoshow and sign autographs.  The thousand dollar question is ~ am I willing to spend at least $1,025.00 and get in a bidding war?  Ultimately, I decided, NO.

We move onto the bargain item of a Chris Paul autographed basketball...  I think back to 2 years ago or so, when I met Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas.  Chris was on crutches then, and I honestly had know idea who he was...  I only recognized Dwyane at the time...  My friend, Richie, who's casino host extraordinare at the Hard Rock told me, that if I was patient, I could meet Dwyane.  Needless to say, I was patient...  After some time and an introduction, I was posing for a picture with Dwyane and ironically Chris was in the background, on crutches, on the left side of the pic...  Dwyane, Chris, and their crew were rolling dice in the cabana by the pool and having harmless fun...  This was 2 years ago or so, and I still have those dice in my Dior Boston Logo bag..  Those dice ARE money...

Lastly, I recall the Arenas jersey and all the headache Gil has brought to his fans and the Washington faithful...  Those that know me, know that I am not a Wizards fan.  Those that know me, know that I have a tendency to vote for the coach when it come to me picking teams during March Madness...  I was a Lute Olsen fan,,  Hell, if he was still coaching, I'd still be a fan.  I've never met the man... I know nothing about him.  BUT, I know "people", and Lute seemed like a good guy so when it came to push or shove, I chose the Wildcats... 

Last night I was chatting at dinner with my sports friends about Gil...  We talked about guns in the NBA and the other athletes that could've gotten in trouble for punching their babysitter, sexual assualt, accidentally shooting someone, jumping into the stands and punching people etc. and many ~ too many names (e.g. Ruben Patterson, Vernon Maxwell, Jayson Williams etc.) ~ come to mind...  I started to think.  These other individuals did what they did and were caught and their careers  for themost part seemingly continued.  Hmmmm... Interesting...  Guns and violence don't surprise me in professional sports.  It's a different world.  Professional sports is a fraternity.  There's a circle of trust in locker rooms, on the court, on the road, etc.  Those individuals in the fraternity do not tamper with the bond that is created by becoming a part of the team.

I looked at the Brett Favre ball today and someone made a comment to me at the event tonight about fidelity, and I found myself waving her off.  I don't care if the guy I admire on the field/court  is a complete POS at home.  I don't buy a ticket to see him at home.  Then I thought about women and the times I was sitting in a professional athlete "family lounge".  What's the family lounge environnment?  It's a bunch of woman, children, and friends who "saw no evil, heard no evil, and will not speak evil"...  You know the saying, "They alway kill the messenger"..  Yeah, welcome to the family lounge.  You tell someone that their spouse or significant other may be doing something shady and brace yourself for what you're about to hear.  It's much easier and safer to just watch Seinfeld re-reruns, keep your mouth shut, and smile.

Gilbert Arenas' jerseys and other items have been removed and according to friends are no longer for sale at the Verizon Center.  Wow.  OK...  I find it funny then that this item seemingly was bid on so little, when it could EASILY become a rare collector's item :-P  I uploaded a pic of this on my fb account during the night with a comment saying that Gil's gun(s) would've gotten more bids than that jersey...  Yes, I said it  ~ and it's funny, so go ahead and laugh out loud...
